OST 2015 Dress Code

Girls:

Hair:

*No one should have to fix their hair in class.*

  • Ballet: Hair must be in a bun. The bun must also be secure so it won’t fall out  in class.
  • Any other style (e.g. Jazz, Zumba, etc.): Hair must be in either a bun, ponytail, or french braid. Your hair should always be styled in a way that makes it easy to turn or jump. It is very distracting when your hair falls out or is getting in your face.
  • Water Classes: Hair must be pulled up and secure so it won’t fall out or become distracting

Attire:

  • Tights: No matter what class you are in or whether you are in spandex shorts or a leotard- you *must* have tights on. They cannot be footed tights but transition, convertible, or stirrup tights are acceptable. You may wear either tan or pink. The only time tights are not worn is for water classes or by a teacher's request. If you do not have tights on you will receive a warning and if it happens again you will not be able to participate in class until you are wearing a pair.
  • Ballet: leotard, pink tights, ballet shoes (or pointe shoes if it is a pointe class) are required. Any color or printed leotard is fine. You may wear a skirt unless the teacher feels it is distracting. Except all Monday classes require specific attire that anyone in that season of OST will purchase once you are accepted.
  • Jazz/Coaches Choice/Master: Besides the necessity of tights your outfit is up to you. You can have a leotard, tights, and spandex (most dancers do this to save time) or you may wear a top with spandex and tights. Whether you are barefoot or in toe undies is entirely up to you. Midriff is allowed in these classes. Except all Monday classes require specific attire that you will purchase once you are accepted.
  • Conditioning Classes: Besides the necessity of tights your outfit is up to you. You can have a leotard, tights, and spandex (most dancers do this to save time) or you may wear a top with spandex and tights. You MUST be wearing exercise sneakers. You may wear whatever brand as long as they are supporting your feet and ankles well. If you do not have sneakers depending on the exercise you may still participate, but you will receive a warning and if it happens again you will not be able to participate in class until you are wearing a pair, unless there is a legitimate reason as to why you don’t have them. Midriff is allowed in these classes. Except all Monday classes require specific attire that you will purchase once you are accepted.
  • Gym Privates: You must have sneakers. This private does not require tights. You may wear shorts, tank top, and sports bra.
  • Studio Privates: You must be wearing tights with a leotard. You may be doing a variety of things so you may have another top and spandex with you. Midriff is allowed except for ballet technique.
  • Water Aerobics or Ballet: You must wear a one piece training suit (Dick's Sporting Goods has a great selection). Please have flip flops, shower necessities, and 2 towels with you.
  • Warm Ups: You may wear booties, socks, sweat pants, sweat shirts, leggings, etc. while warming up, but before class everything except leggings must be placed with your dance bag in the waiting room.

Jewelry:

  • Earrings: You may wear earring studs, but they need to be reasonable. No dangly earrings allowed. (if you are in ballet large studded earring are not allowed.)
  • Necklaces: Are not allowed.
  • Bracelets: Unless you are wearing a fitbit, nike fuelband, etc. There should not be anything on your wrists.
  • Anklets: Are not allowed.
  • Rings: Are not allowed.

We do not want jewelry to be a distraction or a harm to any dancer. Having a necklace on while jumping or turning with dangly earrings is a huge distraction. Please make sure if you are wearing earrings that your earrings are secure before coming to class.

Guys

  • Hair must be neatly trimmed and out of your face. Bandanas/headbands are allowed.

  • Zumba/ Cardio Classes: Body glove (muscle) shirt, compression shorts with or without athletic shorts. You MUST be wearing exercise sneakers. You may wear whatever brand as long as they are supporting your feet and ankles well.
